Race information
Trans Scania Winter
On a break, no race planned…
-
Trans Scania Winter is an unsupported 246 km trail run (with some road parts) across Skåne, or Scania, the southmost province of Sweden. The cut-off time is 55 hours and 56 minutes, and many finishers need most of that time. This means they run for at least two days and two nights. No support is provided during the race from the organizers, not even a dropbag. The runners are on their own, in the countryside, for most part of the race. This challenge is not to be taken lightly.
-
Due to the extreme nature of Trans Scania Winter, the race is only open to Trans Scania finishers! We also demand a 100mile run, 24-hour run or similar in the last three years. The organizers evaluate all applications on a case-by-case basis, and their decision is final. Of course no payment is needed until a registration has been approved.
We would prefer that everyone has their own support along the track during the race. It´s hard to find water and there´s not many stores along the route. If you don´t have support alonge the route, we demand you to have support that follow the race and can pick you up anytime during the race, within 2 hours, in case of emergency! Also, have clothes due to weather conditions! It could be snow and cold, but more likley, rain and cold…
Registration will open on Saturday 14th October at 0:00! If the race fills up with more than 20 qualified runners within the first 24 hours. We will hold a lottery between all qualified applications. The first twenty drawn get a starting place. The rest of the runners will be drawn and placed in queue.
Additional applications after the 24h time limit will be placed in queue as per their order of entry.

The Trans Scania course mainly follows the Skåneleden trail system except for two deviations at the towns of Lövestad and Brösarp respectively, clearly indicated in the gpx file and map documentation.
We try to maintain the gpx files, in fact sometimes our gpx files may be more up to date than the skaneleden.se files, but there can occur recent changes which are not covered.
In this situation, where the map and reality does not correspond, we trust you to handle the situation and carry on. The gpx file is there to support you finding your way on the Skåneleden trail, but ultimately you are in charge of navigation.”

As for wildlife, runners have seen wild boars and badgers, both of which could harm a person if startled. In recent years wolf packs has re-established territory in Skåne.
The course passes through several nature preserves, but it’s always important to respect all animals and plants, and try to disturb them as little as possible. Littering is obviously absolutely prohibited.

Runners can leave a finish bag in Bjärred before start. The finish bags are handled in a reasonably secure way, we keep them in a locked car and then in our room at Hotel Lundia, so storing wallets, keys etc. in them should be fine. However, this is done at your own risk. Other than this, no support is provided. Personal support required, and shall be ready to pick you up within 2 hours! We also need phone number to your support in case we need to contact them, for your saftey! Pacers are allowed.
Think about RTC (Refuse to continue) twice.. or as some say DNF (did not finish) .. you have to get back to Lund, we will not pick you up!
-
All participants are required to carry tracking equipment, which will be provided by the organizers. These are used to monitor and plan the race. A public live map will be provided for sharing with friends and family, but the accuracy is not guaranteed, and positioning should not be relied on for anything important. The tracking devices must be returned to the organizers after the race. If you plan to switch between different bags throughout the race, please make sure to bring the tracker!

Phone, turned on during the race, you need to call RD one time. In best case when you cross the highway in Lund about 2,5km from finish, in worst case if you RTC (refuse to continue), or as some say DNF (did not finish). But think about RTC twice.. you have to get back to Lund, we will not pick you up!
Powerbank, and charging cable for the phone, just in case..
GPS-tracker, provided by race organizers and worn during the whole race!
…you are so experienced that we don´t need to tell you what clothes and equipment you need to complete the race, but remember that the weather is unreliable! It can be sunny and 10 degees but also rain, snow, heavy wind and 10 degees below zero!
